Primeasia (PA) is a sustainable and innovative manufacturer of lifestyle and sports-inspired leathers for the global footwear and leather goods markets. With three manufacturing facilities in Dongguan, China, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Vietnam, and a subcontracting facility with Ecco in Surabaya, Indonesia, Primeasia is one of the largest tannery groups in the world with a monthly capacity exceeding 12.5 million square feet. Primeasia also operates a logistic center in Indonesia with 1.5 million SQFT of finished goods capacity per month for immediate delivery. 1935
Prime Tanning is founded by Leonard Kaplan in Berwick, Maine.
1969
Pou Chen Corporation is founded in September 1969 with canvas and rubber footwear in Taiwan.
1985
Pou Chen and a group of partners establish BARIT’s Corporation producing leather from wet blue in Tien Chung, Taiwan.
1995
Pou Chen and Prime Tanning USA sign a manufacturing licensing 
agreement.
1996
Primeasia is established as a joint venture between Pou Chen and Prime Tanning USA. Operations begin in Taiwan, producing 1M SQFT monthly of black and white athletic leather (wet blue to finishing capabilities).
1998
Primeasia China starts operations in Huang Jiang, China. Initial capacity is 3-6M SQFT monthly with a focus on pigmented leathers (wet blue to finishing capabilities).
2000
Primeasia China introduces brown leather to its product mix.
2002
Primeasia becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Pou Chen.
2004
Primeasia Vietnam begins manufacturing operations in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, producing 3M SQFT monthly of athletic leather (crust to finishing capabilities).
2005
Primeasia helps found the Leather Working Group, a not-for-profit membership organization, working to create meaningful change across the global leather supply chain.
2006
Primeasia Vietnam increases its monthly capacity by 1M SQFT to 4M SQFT. This expansion brings Primeasia’s total monthly capacity between China and Vietnam over 9M SQFT.
2019
Primeasia Vietnam increases its monthly capacity by 2M SQFT to 6M SQFT. Primeasia’s total monthly capacity between China and Vietnam exceeds 10M SQFT.
2021
Primeasia completes one of the first extensive Leather Life Cycle Assessment within the Leather industry.
2024
Primeasia launches its Sustaining Excellence, Preserving Tomorrow sustainability strategy with timebound, measurable targets around four key pillars: Operational Excellence, Circularity, Climate Action, and Social Impact.
2025
Primeasia Vietnam expands its monthly capacity by 2M SQFT to over 8M SQFT. PrimeAsia’s total monthly capacity between China and Vietnam surpasses 12.5M SQFT. Primeasia also launches its new logistics center in Indonesia, accelerating supply chain speed to better serve regional partners.
