Primeasia Accelerates Ahead with Approved SBTi Targets

We are excited to share a major milestone in our sustainability journey: the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) has approved Primeasia’s near-term, long-term, and Forest, Land, and Agriculture (FLAG) science-based emissions reduction targets. The SBTi is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). They define and promote best practice in science-based target setting and independently assess companies’ targets.  

By setting SBTi targets, we are aligning with the latest climate science from the IPCC by committing to science-based 1.5°C and net-zero targets, which is critical in limiting the effects of climate change. You can read our targets below: 

Net-Zero - PrimeAsia Leather commits to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2050. 

Near-Term - PrimeAsia Leather commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 63.0% by 2035 from a 2024 base year.* PrimeAsia Leather also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services, fuel- and energy-related activities and waste generated in operations 38.0% within the same timeframe. 

Near-Term FLAG - PrimeAsia Leather commits to reduce absolute scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions 45.5% by 2035 from a 2024 base year. PrimeAsia Leather commits to no deforestation across its primary deforestation-linked commodities, with a target date of December 31, 2025. 

Long-Term - PrimeAsia Leather commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90.0% by 2050 from a 2024 base year. * PrimeAsia Leather also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions 90.0% within the same timeframe. 

Long-Term FLAG - PrimeAsia Leather commits to reduce absolute scope 3 FLAG GHG emissions 72.0% by 2050 from a 2024 base year. 

*The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from biogenic feedstocks. 

**The target includes FLAG emissions and removals. 

As one of the first tanneries to set validated near and long-term targets, this achievement is a continuation of our 20 years of leadership in sustainability, however, it is only the beginning of our emissions reduction journey. We are currently in the process of setting a comprehensive GHG reduction roadmap to ensure we meet these ambitious goals. 

It will not be easy to reach these targets, but we are committed to taking ambitious action to reduce our GHG footprint. Together we can drive change.
